Basic Prepositions (A1)

Prepositions are small words that link nouns/pronouns to other parts of the sentence, often indicating location, time, or direction.

Here are some essential A1 prepositions:

• in = in, into
• De kat slaapt in de doos. (The cat sleeps in the box.)
• Ik woon in Nederland. (I live in the Netherlands.)

• op = on, upon, at
• Het boek ligt op de tafel. (The book lies on the table.)
• Ik wacht op het station. (I am waiting at the station.)

• onder = under, underneath, below
• De schoenen staan onder het bed. (The shoes are under the bed.)

• naast = next to, beside
• Hij zit naast mij. (He sits next to me.)

• met = with
• Ik drink koffie met melk. (I drink coffee with milk.)
• Ga je met ons mee? (Are you coming with us?)

• van = from, of, by
• Ik kom van mijn werk. (I come from my work.)
