Useful phrases for shopping or ordering:

  • Asking the price:
  • Hoeveel kost dit? (How much does this cost?)
  • Hoeveel kost dat? (How much does that cost?)
  • Hoeveel kost deze [noun]? (How much does this [de-noun] cost?)
  • Hoeveel kost dit [noun]? (How much does this [het-noun] cost?)
  • Hoeveel kost het? (How much does it cost? - General)
  • Stating the price:
  • Dat kost [amount] euro. (That costs [amount] euros.)
  • Het is [amount] euro. (It is [amount] euros.)
  • Ordering/Requesting:
  • Ik wil graag [something]. (I would like [something]. - Polite)
  • Ik neem [something]. (I'll take [something].)
  • Mag ik [something]? (May I have [something]?)
  • Heeft u [something]? (Do you (formal) have [something]?)
  • Paying:
  • Kan ik pinnen? (Can I pay by card? - lit. Can I pin?)
  • Kan ik met creditcard betalen? (Can I pay by credit card?)
  • Alstublieft. (Here you go. / Please. - Used when giving/receiving money/items)
  • Dank u wel. (Thank you (formal).)
